Unexpected Covers

What's your favorite type of music? Such a hard question is usually followed with "Oh, I like everything." Well today, this song {below} came on my Sirius satellite radio. {which I'm in love with BTW and will be really sad when my free trial is up}. Right then and there I decided that I love unexpected covers. You know when one artist/band covers another artist/band who doesn't even fall in the same universe of genres....Like Pearl Jam covering Elvis or that American Idol dude that sang Paula Abdul's Straight Up. That's my favorite type of music. When someone takes something familiar and just twists it up to make it oh so special and different. Listen.

Are there any unexpected cover songs out there that I need to hear? Please share.

Ooooh, this is good. Nothing pops into my head at the moment to suggest though. When something does, I'll come back.

You need to listen to ALL of the songs by Nouvelle Vague. A french band, they cover all sorts of old punk/new wave songs (think Blondie, New Order, Bauhaus); which usually would mean a disaster. But they put a Bossa Nova, melodic spin on everything and the two female vocalists have lovely, lovely voices...
Here's a music video, of their cover of Billy Idol's "Dancing with myself":
