Ready for the { Weekend }

Image via ffffound

I'm a giddy girl this Friday! The sun is shining and it's GORGEOUS in San Diego. It's no surprise we were voted the #2 Most Popular City in the US! (I'm lucky to have lived in 2 of the top 3 - blessed) Thanks Michelle!

What are you guys up to this weekend?

I plan to take Helga to the beach so we can get to know each other a little better.

Let's wrap up the week with some fun things I found here and there...

First of all - a big THANK YOU to Mrs. French for calling my photo inspiring.

Do you doggy daycare? And do you watch like I do? (Zulu will be EXHAUSTED tonight, YAY!)

Colored tape - you know you want it.

I was so excited when I found this recipe and I think it would be perfect for Super Bowl Sunday.

Enjoy! XOXO

{ Vintage } Photos

It seems like there's a real vintage trend going on in the photography world. What's old is new again, I guess. Not sure about you - but sometimes I spend hours making a digital photo look like it was taken 30 years ago on film and run through the washing machine several hundred times.

So you can imagine my delight when my Mom sent some old family photos. The ones above and below are of my Grandpa {Mom's Dad} when he was in the Air Force. I have some of my Gran, some of my Mom (she was such a hottie!) and some of little me (an early 80s child) that I will share a little later.

I love this one - It looks like a scene from South Pacific and they're about to break into a song and dance number...

Grandpa {Middle}

Grandpa {2nd from left}

Wasn't he the cutest?? He passed his gorgeous dark skin down to my Mom but it stopped there. I look nothing like either of them!

Stay tuned for lots more...

Two weeks down { 50 } more to go....

Photo by me

Thank you for all of your lovely ideas for my 365 project! I can't wait to try them. With your support I've made it through two whole weeks. So to celebrate I'm going to curl up on the couch and treat myself to some relaxation for the rest of the evening.

In Need Of { Inspiration }

Photo via ffffound

13 days into my 365 and I'm already hating the direction its going. My attitude toward it is more of "I have to take a picture today" rather than "I want or get to take a picture today." And when I have to take that picture I end up grabbing something around my house to snap a photo of and call it a day. Ugh.

Whenever I'm looking for inspiration two of my favorite places to go are It's Mary Ruffle and Blissful Inspiration.

But I need a little more help from you guys. I think the best way to get me through this is to have weekly themes...think flowers, self portraits or more technical like depth of field, lighting etc. I'm open to anything (well almost anything)

So if you promise to leave me some suggestions, I promise that some time over the next 352 days I will use your idea.

XOXO,
Shelby

Have a sunny { YELLOW } weekend

Image via ffffound

We've been having the most gorgeous weather and then I went to Seattle and brought the rain home with me. But my favorite part of rainy weather is the excuse it gives you to sit on the couch with a cup of tea, a blanket and a good movie, book, magazine or probably in my case my macbook. Enjoy your weekend...whatever the weather.

Exciting News!

Check it out!

Birdman

Photo by me

The other day I came across this post by The Lil Bee and was reminded of our trip to Cape Town. It was the day R proposed. We had just got back to the hotel room after a wonderful trip to Boulders Beach, an engagement and a lovely champagne brunch.

I looked out the window of our hotel room and across the way stood a very kind looking elderly man on a roof top with hundreds of pigeons surrounding him. After watching him for a few minutes I realized he wasn't just feeding them, he was directing them.

Like a conductor to his orchestra the birds were flying in unison with every command and gesture. It was astonishing to witness and beautiful all at the same time.

So when I stumbled across Bee's post and the memory came rushing back, I Googled (gotta love Google) "Cape Town Birdman" and found this! Amazing! They filmed a documentary about him which was shown at the Heart Of Gold International Film Festival.

The synopsis: In a coastal suburb of Cape Town lives a charming elderly gentleman, who over a period of 15 years has gained the trust and friendship of the pigeons near his home by feeding and interacting with them every day. Over time he has put together a highly original and engrossing show, where he has taught the birds some remarkable tricks. They listen to him and trust him completely. His endearing love for the birds shines through, and although his income solely relies on donations from neighbors and friends for his show, he spends most of it on feeding and caring for the birds. Birdman is the remarkable and beautifully filmed story of an unemployed man, making a living from what he loves most.

I can only imagine it will be a beautiful and remarkable story and I feel so blessed that I was able to witness his magic with my own eyes. I hope you will check it out, too.
Cheers to you Birdman.

I can't get enough of Far's cover of Ginuwine's Pony. Maybe because it reminds me of my freshman year of college (one of the best years of my life)

One of the best covers I've heard in a long time. If not ever. Can't get enough.

Please

Don't words look funny when you write them over and over again?

I need some assistance....I want a new camera. I need someone to talk me into it, talk me out of it, tell me what to get, what not to get, when to get it...

Problem 1: I currently have a very nice camera. However my hubby and I share it. He gets mad at me when I change the settings. I'm always changing the settings.

Problem 2: I currently have a very nice camera. I don't want to take it everywhere I go for fear that I will lose it, break it, have it stolen etc...

Problem 3: I really, really want to do a 365 and after seeing this I realized it's time to take the plunge. See problem 2 again.

Possible solution: I'm thinking of getting an advanced point and shoot. Something not too big that I can easily carry around but that still takes decent photos.

Can you help?
What camera do you use?
Which camera would you recommend?

I'm a Canon girl so I'm leaning in that direction but I would love to hear your thoughts.

I'd like to stay in the $300 range.

Thank you in advance for all your recommendations and help.

XOXO

I wish you a...

It's a short work week for me as I'm off to Seattle on Friday morning to visit friends, meet babies and celebrate a bachelorette! This trip sort of snuck up on me so this week I need to perhaps organize my closet and dig out some of my "real" winter clothes to bring along for the chilly Seattle weather.

Happy Monday!

The { YELLOW } Dress

My favorite way to wear yellow is with a fresh, feminine dress. Which is exactly why I chose them as my bridesmaids dresses. (More on that later). Here I'll share with you a few yellow dress styles that I wouldn't mind having in my wardrobe.

Maybe its seeing Michelle Williams in the gorgeous Vera Wang dress she wore to the Oscars or maybe it's because I've actually heard of the nominees this year, either way I am SO excited for the Golden Globes tonight. Especially the red carpet.

Do you think we'll be seeing more of the "color of the year"? Maybe we'll continue to see more purple and jewel tones? Perhaps some classic black and white? What would you like to see this year?
